Why do we celebrate the 4th of July?

The Fourth of July is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July fourth, 1776. The Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer part of the British Empire, and thus independent.

John Adams believed that independence would be celebrated with “pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations” from one end of the continent to another. Though fireworks are now synonymous with Fourth of July celebrations, they didn’t become popular until much later. In 1847 an Englishman named Samuel Pierpoint Langley began experimenting with different compositions and methods for launching fireworks into the air.

One hundred years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the United States was celebrating its centennial and President Ulysses S. Grant officially declared July fourth a national holiday.

Why the 4th of July is the best holiday?

The Fourth of July is a great holiday because it’s all about celebrating who we are as Americans and the country that we live in. You can create your fun by spending time with family, friends, and neighbors at picnics, parades, or even making up games like red rover to play together. There’s also plenty for kids (and adults) to do on this day including visiting amusement parks, watching fireworks displays, or taking part in organized activities such as pie-eating contests! Plus there aren’t any gifts involved so you don’t have to stress about finding presents- just focus on having a good time!

  • There’s no pressure to find gifts.
  • No presents involved.
  • Amusement parks, fireworks, and other activities available.
  • Local parades and picnics nearby.
  • Major fireworks displays in many large cities.
  • It’s a day of fun and relaxation with friends, family, and neighbors.
  • Pie eating contests and other events for kids.

What should I wear on the fourth of July?

Wear something that you feel comfortable in when celebrating Independence Day with friends or family. For example, if you’re attending a barbecue at your local park it’s probably best to dress casually in shorts and t-shirts while wearing sturdy shoes for playing games outside. However, if you plan to spend most of the day indoors watching fireworks displays from a distance then dressing up might be more appropriate! You can go traditional by buying American flag-themed accessories such as hats, sunglasses, and shirts which are perfect for everyone in the family including toddlers who love being part of celebrations too. Or consider red white & blue outfits like stars & stripes dresses or skirts for women or blue jeans and white t-shirts combos for men.

What are fun things to do with family and friends on the Fourth of July?

BBQ

Many people enjoy a great American tradition of barbequing on the 4th of July.

People get together and share the experience of cooking, eating, and socializing while celebrating their heritage. It is also tradition for families to cook certain foods such as hamburgers and hot dogs which are typically eaten while watching a fireworks display at night.

Picnic

A Fourth of July picnic is the perfect way to celebrate America’s independence. Not only is it a fun and affordable way to gather with friends and family, but it’s also a great opportunity to show your patriotism. Here are a few tips for putting together the perfect Independence Day picnic:

  • Choose a patriotic location. A park or other outdoor space with a view of the fireworks is ideal.
  • Bring red, white, and blue decorations to set the mood. American flags, streamers, and balloons will do the trick.
  • Serve classic Fourth of July foods like hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, and apple pie.
  • Don’t forget the drinks! Serve cold water, lemonade, iced tea, or patriotic punch.
  • Play games like frisbee or tag to keep the energy up.

Fireworks

It’s the day that Americans celebrate Independence Day, and one of the most iconic images associated with it is fireworks. Fireworks represent all that makes America great – freedom, diversity, and opportunity. American fireworks are seen as the best in the world due to their quality of design.

Many people watch them from home enjoying a BBQ or picnic with friends and family while others choose instead to attend public displays for example local parades where they can be enjoyed by all members of the community.

Is it safe to use fireworks in my area?

The idea of people using fireworks for fun may seem obvious now but there was once a time when this practice was illegal everywhere in America. Other countries did not allow them at all until after World War II (WWII) because they were considered dangerous weapons which would be used against us by foreign nations during wartime. Even today we still have some areas where you cannot buy certain types of fireworks due to safety concerns about events such as California’s wildfires. However, the use of fireworks is legal in 48 states and Washington D.C., with only Massachusetts and New Jersey banning all consumer fireworks. It is important to check your local laws before purchasing or using any type of fireworks just to be safe.

What are the most popular types of fireworks?

The most popular type of firework would have to be the aerial shell which explodes high into the air and often features a variety of colors. These shells come in many different sizes, with some being as small as an inch in diameter while others can be several inches wide. There are also cake fireworks which are multiple tubes fused that shoot off when lit and produce large displays with various effects on each one like whistles, crackling stars, and more.

Other popular types of fireworks include rockets, fountains that shoot off sparks in different shapes like flowers or butterflies, sparklers that have a slow burn time to produce the effect you see in many photos from this holiday, and various novelty items including smoke balls that create large plumes of white smoke when lit on fire. The most common question about these is if they are legal for use by people of all ages since some can be very dangerous but according to New York state laws there are no age restrictions on their purchase or possession so long as it is only being used legally. There are also other common questions such as whether any type of fireworks should be set off indoors due to safety concerns regarding burning debris potentially causing a fire or injury in some cases.

What is the safest way to enjoy fireworks?

The safest and most popular option when it comes to enjoying fireworks would have to be by attending a show put on for entertainment purposes rather than using them yourself at home which can lead to injuries such as burns from mishandling or faulty devices. By going with friends and family you also increase safety since there will always be someone around who has your best interests in mind if an accident was ever to occur due to their use of fireworks being legal where you live.

Make a firework show with kids or adults by following instructions how to make Sparklers

How do I make sparklers?

Sparklers

You will need:

-A wire coat hanger (or something similar)

– Battery-powered tea lights or votive candles

– Tape

– Aluminum foil

– Pipe cleaners (optional)

Directions:

– Bend the coat hanger into a spiral. If you’re using something other than a hanger, make sure it is sturdy enough to hold the weight of the candle.

– Wrap the aluminum foil around the spiral, making sure there are no gaps. The more layers of foil you add, the longer your sparkler will burn for.

– Secure with tape. You can also use pipe cleaners around each end to help keep the foil in place.

– Put the battery-powered tea light or votive candle in the center of the foil.

– Lights up your new sparkler!

Visit a parade

One great way to celebrate the Fourth of July is by attending a parade. Many small towns and communities have parades that are open to the public. It’s a fun, family-friendly event that allows you to see your neighbors and community members in a festive setting. Plus, who doesn’t love a good parade?

Attend a concert or festival

There are likely many concerts and festivals happening around the Fourth of July weekend. Whether you want to see some big names in music or enjoy local performances, there’s sure to be something for everyone. This is also a great opportunity to check out new artists or bands and support your community.

Visit historical locations

Many historical locations offer special tours or events on Independence Day. These can be a great way to learn more about America’s history and how it has shaped our country today. Plus, they’re often free or discounted for the holiday weekend.

Volunteer

There are many opportunities to volunteer on the Fourth of July. You could help out at a local animal shelter, food bank, or park cleanup event. This is a great way to give back to your community and celebrate patriotism simultaneously.

Watch a game

Baseball is often considered America’s pastime, and what better way to celebrate Fourth of July than by watching a game? Many teams have special Independence Day-themed games, or you could watch your favorite team play on the road.

Go camping in your backyard

Fourth of July is a great time to go camping with the family. You can make s’mores, enjoy nature and stargaze, or roast marshmallows over an open fire. This is also a fun event for friends and neighbors!

Make some red, white, and blue sweets

Fourth of July is a great time to make festive red, white, and blue sweets for your family or friends. You could whip up some delicious milkshakes topped with whipped cream and sprinkles, Fourth of July-themed cookies decorated in patriotic colors, cake pops adorned with the American flag, or even ice cream cones filled with fruit salad. No matter what you choose to make this holiday weekend, everyone will enjoy these sweet treats!

Have a game night

Another fun way to celebrate the Fourth of July is by having a game night. This could be something as simple as playing cards or board games, or you could get more elaborate and do some themed games like “Pin the Star on the Flag” or “Red, White and Blue Twister.”

Make some patriotic crafts

There are many ideas online about how to make your own Fourth of July decorations, but here are just a few examples:

Paper stars

– These could be used as garlands or simply hung on walls around the house! You could also use them as napkin rings at outdoor parties. To make these you will need construction paper in red and blue, scissors and glue sticks. Take one sheet of each color paper and cut out three-inch by five-inch rectangles (you should have six total). Fold two pieces together so they create an X shape with straight edges along both diagonals near what would be the top corners if you were to open it up. Apply glue to the unfolded edges and press together, then do the same for the other two pieces. Now cut along one long edge of each folded piece (the fold should be on the outside). This will create a pointy star shape. Glue these stars onto another sheet of blue paper in any design you like, making sure that when they are hung up they will show their points correctly.

Big Stars

These can be made with paper plates and construction paper glued on. You could also use cereal box cardboard for this craft if you want something sturdier than the flimsy plate!

Make a flag wreath

This craft is perfect for the Fourth of July! You will need:

– Styrofoam wreath form (available at most craft stores)

– Yarn in red, white, and blue colors

– Scissors

Directions:

– Cut the yarn into 12” lengths. You will need about three times the length of the circumference of your styrofoam wreath.

– Tie each piece of yarn around the styrofoam form, making sure to space them evenly.

– Weave the yarn in and out of the spaces between the pieces of yarn that are already on the form. This will create a woven flag pattern.

– Once you have finished weaving, tie off the end of the yarn and trim any excess. Hang your wreath on your front door or in another patriotic spot in your home!

Make some jam

If you have a backyard fruit tree or your friends and family members do, then making jam is an easy way to celebrate the Fourth of July. You could make red, white, and blueberry jam for yummy PB&J sandwiches all summer long!

Make some lemonade

You can’t go wrong with classic homemade ice tea on a hot summer day. For holiday celebrations like the Fourth of July though try out this delicious patriotic twist using freshly squeezed lemons in place of watermelon juice. If you want to get even more creative add grenadine syrup for flavor along with maraschino cherries as well as strawberries cut into stars radiating from the bottom up the sides about halfway through their height to create stripes.

Look up at the stars

Finding constellations in the sky might seem like an impossible task when city lights drown them all out, but on Independence Day that doesn’t have to stop you from enjoying star gazing! You can go camping if possible or simply bring along a blanket outside of your home after dark on July Fourth. If this interests anyone here is a great website that has a guide to the constellations for all ages.

Kick back and watch a movie

Of course, one of the easiest ways to enjoy Fourth of July is simply staying inside and watching some classic patriotic films. Try “Yankee Doodle Dandy” for an old-school feel or go with something more recent like “The Patriot” starring Mel Gibson. There are plenty of others to choose from so you can find one that fits your mood perfectly!

– Yankee Doodle Dandy

– The Patriot

– Independence Day

– Born on the Fourth of July

– The Star-Spangled Banner

Throw a Family Pool Party

What better way to celebrate America’s birthday than by getting together with your loved ones for a pool party? Supply some red, white, and blue decorations like these streamers or flags as well as food and drinks themed accordingly. If you have any little ones around make sure to have plenty of games and activities planned too such as water balloon tosses or races!

Make a bike parade of your own

You can make your parade with red white and blue streamers or paint that you attach to the sides of your bike’s wheels. Then go biking around town meeting up with friends for a day filled full of celebration!

Have a Water Balloon Fight

This is a Fourth of July tradition for many, and it’s easy to see why. What could be more fun than soaking your friends and family members with cold water balloons? Make sure you have plenty of ammo (and towels) ready to go before the festivities begin!

Backyard Olympics with Your Team

If you want to make the Fourth of July a day-long event, consider hosting your own backyard Olympics. Set up some simple games like relay races, water balloon tosses, and Frisbee golf. You can even provide red white and blue medals for the winners!
