- City hall
City Hall is one of the tallest buildings in California. A white, 32-storey, 138-meter-high skyscraper stands in the heart of the city, and today the City Hall of Los Angeles is located there. According to one version, the building was built on the model of the Mausoleum of Mausolus in Halicarnassus, which is more than 2000 years old. In Los Angeles, earthquakes are frequent, so rubber cushions are laid in the foundation of the skyscraper, which soften tremors and withstand vibrations up to 8 points.
What to watch
There is an observation deck on the 27th floor of the City Hall, and in front of it there is a conference room with a high ceiling, where the mayor of the city holds meetings. Here on the table is a book of reviews and suggestions, where anyone can share their impressions.
City Hall is one of the most recognizable buildings in Los Angeles and is featured on local police badges.
The interiors of the tower halls are interesting with ancient columns and antique chandeliers. In the lobby on the 26th floor you can see a gallery of portraits of all the former mayors of the city, starting from 1850 – only 41. On the square in front of the City Hall there is a sign with a list of all sister cities and distances to them, including St. Petersburg …
