Museum de Young (San Francisco, USA) – expositions, opening hours, address, phone numbers, official website.
Magnificent collections of anthropological artifacts that trace the history of mankind, plus an excellent collection of American art from the 19th and 20th centuries, is the main reason why the De Young Museum is one of the most visited museums in San Francisco. Painting and sculpture, interior items and arts and crafts from the first decades of US history are presented in the museum as fully as possible. An additional pleasant bonus – the de Young Museum is located in the Golden Gate Park near the bridge of the same name, so here you can not only get a dose of culture, but also consolidate the result with a walk in the fresh air.
The Museum de Young got its name from the name of the director of the Associated Press agency Michael de Young, among other things known for his collecting activities. Mr. Young managed to assemble one of the world’s finest collections of early American art, which he presented to the public in 1895. In 2005, the Museum de Young moved to a new futuristic building, more spacious, but quite controversial from an architectural point of view. However, the observation tower that appeared at the museum only spurred the interest of the public – the entrance to it is free, and a beautiful view of San Francisco and the bay opens from the top.
