Pier 39 (USA) – description, history, location. Exact address, phone number, website. Reviews of tourists, photos and videos.
The popular San Francisco area Pier 39, as the name implies, is located in the bay, on the site of the former piers, directly opposite Alcatraz Island. Despite this neighborhood, the atmosphere here is the most direct: there are many shops, restaurants and cafes, attractions and entertainment centers on Pier 39. However, this is not the main attraction of the area – the main magnet that invariably attracts crowds of tourists and locals to Pier 39 is the Californian sea lions.
The hilarious pinnipeds chose the old berths that remained unaffected in the reconstruction as their place of residence – and began to settle there en masse, not paying any attention to the city noise and tourist hubbub. The city of San Francisco helped the lions settle by building additional “piers,” and today Pier 39 is home to at least a thousand animals.
Pier 39 is also interesting for the huge San Francisco Aquarium, which is home to about 20 thousand different representatives of the cold-blooded. Here you can learn more about the underwater fauna of the bay, walk through a glass tunnel in the water column and even touch a slope.
