American Football

The most popular sport in the United States is American football. The first control games in preparation for the new season take place in August, and the season itself begins in September. Regular season games continue until December, and playoffs are held in January.

National Football League (NFL) championship team is Los Angeles Rams that plays their home games in LA Coliseum.

Baseball

America’s second most popular championship among professional clubs is Major League Baseball (MLB), which is baseball. The regular season begins in April and runs through September, with playoff series in October and November.

The City of Angels is represented in Major League Baseball by two teams:

  • Los Angeles Dodgers, which plays Dodger Stadium near the Downtown area;
  • Los Angeles Angels – This baseball team plays its home games in Anaheim at Angel Stadium, located in Orange County, home of Disneyland USA.

Hockey (NHL)

The National Hockey League (NHL) is the most important winter team sport in the United States. The best hockey players from all over the world go to play in NHL because this league is played by the strongest hockey clubs. Usually NHL games begin with the preseason in September. The NHL regular season runs from late October to mid-April, followed by hockey playoff games, which continue through the end of June with full houses in crowded stadiums

Los Angeles has two prominent hockey clubs in the NHL:

  • The first NHL club is called the Los Angeles Kings, whose games are played at Staple Center Stadium;
  • There is also an NHL club called the Anaheim Ducks, who play their home games at the Honda Center arena in Anaheim, near the ballpark.

Basketball (NBA)

Basketball is another important sport which is much loved in the USA for its spectacle and technicality with lots of interesting tricks. The National Basketball Association (NBA) holds regular season games from late October to mid-April. The NBA playoffs are played from mid-April through the end of June.

In Los Angeles, two professional basketball clubs, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers, play their NBA series games at Staples Center, which is located in the Downtown district in the heart of downtown.

How and where do I buy a ticket to a stadium in Los Angeles?

All visitors to the city and tourists, in addition to visiting Hollywood attractions, have an excellent opportunity to buy tickets for sports events in Los Angeles in advance and watch interesting basketball, hockey, soccer or baseball games at one of the city’s stadiums.

The main way to buy tickets for sporting events currently being held in Los Angeles is to order your ticket online and then print a barcode that will allow you to go through the turnstiles when you enter the stadium. If you need to buy a ticket for a match of one of the sports clubs of Los Angeles, it is best to do it on the official website of the team or on the stadium website, then you will not have any problems in case of exchange or refund.

It is also worth adding that in Los Angeles it is quite difficult to buy good tickets for hockey, basketball, or baseball games at the box office shortly before the game, as almost all seats in the stadium are bought in advance (especially for the most important games). So I recommend buying your ticket for a sporting event online well in advance of the game date.

Good to know: Two popular companies in the U.S. are TicketExchange by Ticketmaster and StubHub, which specialize in reselling those stadium seats that are reserved for annual season ticket holders who do not want to go to a particular game. Most sports teams partner with one of these two companies. So when you are going to buy a ticket for a match on the official website of the team or stadium, check first which company they work with, as it is with a representative of this particular company that you will deal with any issues if there are any problems.

Insurance in the U.S. When traveling to America be sure to get health insurance, because medicine in the U.S. is very expensive. The easiest way to get insurance is on the Tripinsurance website, which offers Allianz Global Assistance. You can also compare the conditions and prices of different insurance companies on the Cherehapa website and buy the right one for you.

Also, tourists interested in history can visit the Los Angeles Sports Museum, which is located at 1900 S Main St, Los Angeles.

Biking in Los Angeles

Biking in Los Angeles is a great way to see the city and get some exercise at the same time. The coastal part of the city has great bike paths, especially along the beaches. For example, from Santa Monica Beach through Venice, there is a path to Manhattan Beach along the entire Santa Monica Bay! You can also ride the hiking trail in Hollywood, the most famous neighborhood in Los Angeles. I want to warn you right away that the city itself is quite hilly and it can be quite difficult to pedal for a tourist who is not physically prepared.

Where can I rent a bike in Los Angeles?

You can easily rent a bike for a ride around Los Angeles at all Metro Rail stations and easily return it to any other station at any time of the day or night.
If there is no designated bike lane, you can ride carefully on the sidewalk.

Everyone knows that Los Angeles, with its many and best beaches and high waves along the coast, is a real Mecca for surfers who come here from all over the world from midsummer to Christmas holidays. Malibu Beach is especially good for surfing.

Tuition costs from $75 to $150. Private lessons range from $50 to $100 per hour (equipment rental is included in the price of lessons).

The best time to surf is considered the fall season, as from September to November, when Los Angeles has the best weather: the air is cleaner, the waves in the sea are larger, and even the water temperature rises by several degrees.
